Sustainability Commitment

We are committed to continually improving Provenance Flour so that the land, the people who farm it, the artisans who love it, and the food it helps create can continue to thrive for generations to come.

At Provenance Flour and Malt, sustainability begins with recognising that grain production sits within a living agricultural system. The health of soil, the wellbeing of farming families, the resilience of rural communities, and the quality of the food we create are inseparable.

Our work focuses on strengthening that system through soil stewardship, long-term farming partnerships, and milling grain with care, producing flour that performs beautifully while contributing to the health of the landscapes and communities that make it possible.

This approach draws guidance from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and systems-based sustainability research from organisations including the CSIRO.

Our framework recognises four interconnected pillars: Environmental Sustainability, Social Sustainability, Economic Sustainability, and Quality Sustainability.

Environmental Sustainability: We work with growers who actively steward soil health, water systems and long term land productivity. Farming practices that protect soil structure, biodiversity and nutrient balance allow wheat crops to thrive while preserving the ecosystems that make food production possible.

This work contributes to global sustainability priorities including sustainable agriculture, climate action and protection of life on land.

Social Sustainability: Food systems are ultimately human systems. Provenance Flour is built on long term relationships with farming families and regional communities. Supporting the wellbeing, knowledge and viability of rural communities is essential to maintaining a resilient grain system. We value the pride of the farmers, artisans and their communities and celebrate their incredible contributions to society.

Strong communities create the conditions for stewardship, innovation and the continuation of generational knowledge.

Building Community

Economic Sustainability: A viable farming business is the foundation of long term environmental stewardship. Through transparent supply relationships and fair pricing, growers are able to invest in soil health, improved farming practices and the future of their land.

Economic resilience across the supply circle allows the system to continue evolving and improving.

Quality Sustainability: Quality is the outcome of the whole system working well. When soil health, farming expertise, careful milling and strong partnerships come together, the result is grain with exceptional functionality, flavour and character. For Provenance Flour, sustainability and quality are inseparable and this ensures that
everyone in our supply circle can create, inspire and nourish in meaningful ways.

In our industry there is much focus on sustainability, both locally and globally, almost exclusively from an environmental perspective. True sustainability is much broader than this. We’ve been discussing sustainability with many people in our supply circle and your voice matters. We would be delighted if you would join our group to continue shaping the future of our industry.
